Art Director – Republic Magazines
The Arizona Republic, the largest metro daily newspaper in the state and part of Gannett Co. Inc., the largest newspaper publisher in the US, has an immediate opening in our Magazine Division.
The Art Director will be responsible for all design phases of multiple magazines, establishing the look and feel of the publication overall, including covers, departments and features. Responsible for directing and coordinating photo shoots with photographers and stylists and releasing pages within assigned deadlines. Participates in team meetings and takes a leadership role by strategizing sections so they are executed to their fullest potential. Manages art and freelance budget for publications. Has the ability to think “big picture” without losing sight of minute details. Strong typography skills with ability to design sophisticated layouts and prototypes in a timely manner. Ability to plan, organize and make decisions quickly and with confidence, handle and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced publishing environment under tight deadline pressures. Strong communication and presentation skills. Proficient in InDesign with expert computer skills and ability to adapt to changing technologies or processes. Excellent at communicating and presenting concepts. Must have vocational or Bachelor’s degree in graphic design with coursework in design or art or 2 years experience and or training in a related field. Four years publication design experience a must.
