Do you draw brush script with a pencil? Does your lettering lack spark and flow? Much lettering looks unnatural because it defies the physics of calligraphy and uses ordinary materials. Our Boot Camp will suit you up, shape you up, and develop muscles you never knew you had using your luxurious new calligraphy kit!
In this two-day hands-on workshop, you’ll build up muscle memory while learning five different calligraphy styles that will help take your lettering skills to the next level. You’ll emerge with a better understanding of both historical and contemporary letterforms, deepening your appreciation for the evolution of the western alphabet.
Session 1: Monday, October 8
The first day of Boot Camp will introduce your new toolkit while learning Uncial and Blackletter style calligraphy.
Session 2: Thursday, October 11
We will continue on day two with Brush Script, Modern Cursive and rustic Folded Pen. Both dates are included in your registration and you are expected to attend both days.
This workshop is designed for beginners with little to no formal experience with calligraphy. Intermediate lettering artists looking to expand their repertoire are also welcome to attend. Samuel Ybarra will assist Prof. King and help keep the student/teacher ratio low.
Enrollment is limited to 20, so register today to reserve your spot – this will fill up quickly! Class fee includes both workshop sessions and all the tools you’ll need, including paper. Pick up your kit on the first night of the workshop.
This workshop is presented in association with Phoenix Design Week. See the full lineup at phxdw.com.
