How did you get started with AIGA Arizona?
I was part of AIGA when I was in design school at ASU. AIGA wasn’t quite as active back then, but I knew it was something I had to be a part of. I took a bit of a hiatus, but came back in the past few years.

What do you like most about AIGA Arizona?
I love showing up to an event or Design Week and running into people from my past – former classmates, co-workers, people I interned for, interns that I had. It’s so fun to see the world get small at those events.

What design event do you look forward to every year?
I enjoy connecting with young designers, so the ASU Senior Graphic Design show is one of my favorite design events in Arizona. It’s fun to reminisce with former professors and see all the talent about to enter the professional design world.

What is the superpower you wish you had?
The ability to freeze time. There just never seems to be enough of it in the day to do all the things. Also so I can freeze time with my 3 and 6 year old daughters. They are at such a fun age of learning and discovering.

Take a moment to showcase some designers or creatives who you think people should be following and why.
@beccaclason She does stop motion photography/animations and tactile lettering. I was introduced to her by a talented young designer/ photographer that I worked with and I am obsessed with Becca’s work!

Tell us about your favorite event or moment with AIGA Arizona.
The PHXDW conference is by far my favorite event of the year. I love reconnecting with friends and making new ones while learning and being inspired. It’s such an exciting event!

Have a story to tell about your own AIGA journey or want to nominate someone? You don’t need to be an award winner, a prodigy, or even a graphic designer to be chosen. Send a note to Membership Director Julian Martinez and tell us what being a member of the AIGA Arizona community means to you. See you next month!
